Year 2 Summer Term Week 6 Lesson 3 Shape and Space, Reasoning about Shapes Year 2 Summer Term Week 6 Lesson 3

Today we will be learning to: recognise 3-D shapes make models using 3-D shapes know what properties make each 3-D shape special.

Mental Activity ‘True’ or ‘False’

Choose a partner who is not in your normal maths group. You will need a pencil and paper.

On one half write ‘True’. Fold the paper in half. On one half write ‘True’. On the other half write ‘False’.

I will say some sentences about right angles and 3-D shapes. Record whether they are ‘True’ of ‘False’.

Today we are going to learn more about 3-D or ‘solid’ shapes. Main Activity Today we are going to learn more about 3-D or ‘solid’ shapes.

Look at the collections of 3-D shapes and packaging. Find a shape to match each of these sentences.

one curved and one flat face? Which shapes have eight corners? Which shape has one curved and one flat face? Which shapes have eight corners? Which shapes have no corners? Which shapes have six flat faces?

Which shape has no flat face? Which shape has only one corner? Which shapes have five flat faces? Which shapes have six corners?

Group Work Choose a partner from one of the groups you do not normally work with. Make a model using 3-D shapes. Draw your model and record how many of each shape you used. Count its faces, corners and edges.
