Presentation transcript:

Nanotechnology (Kanzius Machine) By: Allison Garcia

State the objectives of the research. What are the researchers trying to determine? John Kanzius (engineer) invented the machine-diagnosed/died from leukemia To Target cancerous tissue by using nanoparticles—cure cancer pts. Once the gold particles attach to cancer cells, the Kanzius Machine emits radio waves that excite the nanoparticles & cause them to heat up. Making sure the machine is safe for humans

What have the researchers discovered so far? Heat and radio waves can destroy cancer cells? Yes. When researchers inject gold nanoparticles into cancer cells, radio waves heat the metal & kill cells. Nanoparticles are attached to antibodies that swim through the body seeking out genetic markers that some cancers emit. They ignore the healthy cells. Clinical trials are safe to try on patients as of (2015) now and 2016.

List and define THREE chemistry concepts learned in class mentioned in the research Electromagnetic Radiation- a kind of radiation including visible light, radio waves, gamma rays, and X- rays, in which electric and magnetic fields vary simultaneously. Element-consist of one type of atom; substance that can’t be broken down into other substances by chemical methods. Compounds-consist of molecules (atoms that form bonds). Compound —-> Elements = Chemical changes.
