The capital of South Carolina is Columbia. It became a state on May 23, 1788.

The state bird is the Great Carolina wren. The state flower is the yellow Jessamine.

The state tree is the sandal palmetto ( A rare tree.) The state nickname is palmetto.

The number of colleges is 66.

Jesse Jackson was one of my famous people Jesse Jackson was one of my famous people. He was born in Greenville in 1941. He is famous because he became a preacher and a civil rights leader. He also founded PUSH in 1971. That is a group that works for the rights of black people.
