Women’s Suffrage Suffrage = the right to vote in political elections. Women had increased educational opportunities Fought and petitioned for the right to vote Women started to gain the right to vote one state at a time (starting out west)

Famous leader and icon of the women’s suffrage movement – helped form a national organization that focused efforts on a constitutional amendment granting women’s suffrage. 19th amendment was named the “Susan B. Anthony” amendment in her honor. Helped form the National Woman’s Party in 1916 and was a key figure whose actions helped bring about the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

Spent more time in jail than any other American suffragist. Early leader of the women’s rights movement, worked closely with Susan B. Anthony to establish the National Woman Suffrage Association. Helped organize the first women’s rights convention (1848) and wrote the Declaration of Sentiments Co-founded the National Woman’s Party with Alice Paul in 1916 and organized lobbying in Congress for a constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote. Spent more time in jail than any other American suffragist.
