To Kill a Mockingbird Chapter 7 By Ramsey, Ethan, William and Zane

Plot and events Scout starts second grade and likes it more than the first grade because she can walk home with Jem. (pg. 64) Jem and Scout claim the knot-hole theirs and continue to find more loot and treasure. (pg. 66) Jem and Scout continue to find more treasure and end up finding a pocket watch and aluminum knife. (pg. 67) Jem and Scout decide to write a letter to the person who’s been leaving all the loot in the knot-hole. (pg. 68) Jem and scout find the knot-hole filled with cement. (pg. 69)

setting The Quote “there are no clearly defined seasons in south Alabama” Suggests to the reader, that by saying this scout lives in this area of America. This allows the reader to understand that the entirety of the story is based in the state of south Alabama. On page 64 of The novel to kill a mockingbird, the author (Lee) uses the quote “One afternoon when we were crossing the school yard towards home.”. This piece of text allows the reader to understand that area the events in previous lines has been based at Jem and scouts elementary school.

themes New school year Scout has a better relationship with her brother The theme/subject is Jem and Scout collecting items from a tree put there by a stranger Jem realizes that Boo is trying to communicate with them, while Scout still doesn’t know. Jem learns through the mending of his pants that Boo Radley isn’t a monster and doesn’t disrespect him again.

Symbols Gifts – Boo Radley left gifts in the knothole for the Finch children. This is shown through when Harper Lee says “In its knot-hole rested a ball of grey of twine.” Not because of appreciation or affection, but to grow their bond. This symbolises that Boo was trying to show that there was no reason to be afraid of him. Jems’ pocket watch – Atticus’ fathers pocket watch, is a symbol of respect for his grandfather and father. Although Jem would rather wear the watch that he had been given to by Boo Radley. This shows their burgeoning friendship with each other. This is seen by the quote from chapter 7, page 67 “I’d rather have this one instead.”
