Bond Information and Software Distribution Services C. Brian Hill February 5, 2002

Functional Goals An information service that allows processes to retrieve information about Bond residents distributed throughout the network A software distribution service that notifies running residents when a new version of Bond is available and facilitates the upgrading of the software

Existing Research – Information Services “Grid Information Services for Distributed Resource Sharing” – presents an information service architecture “Position Aware Group Information Services” – Information Service with consideration for system mobility

Existing Research – Software Distribution “Evaluating Software Deployment Languages and Schema” – Evaluation of existing software deployment models “CoDelivery: An Environment for Distribution of Reusable Components” – Upgrading by distributing only changed objects

Existing Research – Software Distribution “Trusted distribution of software over the Internet” – a software distribution system to ensure software integrity by using certificates signed by a third party “A Law-Abiding Peer-to-Peer Network for Free-Software Distribution” – a P2P distribution system which claims to stop distribution of illegal software

Project Plans - IS Extend Distributed Awareness mechanism to manage more information (e.g. software version) Design Information Service sub-protocol to accommodate registration and queries

Project Plans - SDS Develop a robust model for performing software upgrades Implement Software Distribution Service using Information Service to locate residents running outdated software versions
