Revitalising the Student Surveys Gathering and Responding to Student Feedback

The Project The research base Purposes of the review Closing the feedback loop How do we know if we have made a difference Scope to make changes at any level

Surveys Run at HWU Course Feedback Survey Welcome Survey NSS Annual Survey

Needed ‘Revitalised’ Poor response rate Little evidence of changes made Students and staff unhappy with current system

Started with three questions: What were we doing? Why were we doing it? What were we getting?

Interviews + Results What did each interview identify? Is that issue within the scope of the project? Issues More than 1? 10? Similarities from different levels Validate Where is the root of the issue? Why do we have that issue? Framing

Second wave These issues were identified How do we solve them Present issues that affect this stakeholder Listen to full idea without question Don’t let them cut themselves off D

Results 20 recommendations: 4 Closing the Feedback Loop 4 Making a difference 5 Response rates 2 Quality of data gathered 1 Trust 2 Difficult Discussion 2 Confusion around surveys Important to note more than half had ‘nothing’ to do with original aim of study Complex issue – required this in-depth analysis
