RDA GLOBAL / 1 The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is a global organization dedicated to supporting researchers and innovators who seek to share data openly across technological platforms, research disciplines, and international borders. RDA is committed to providing a community-driven neutral space in which its members can connect and explore viable solutions that address the grand challenges of our data-dependent society. RDA was launched in 2013 as a collaborative initiative by the European Commission, the United States National Science Foundation and National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Australian Government’s Department of Innovation. Paolo Budroni, Addis Ababa, 21 FEB 2018 – NADRE Meeting – Towards the Ethiopian Knowledge Society

RDA GLOBAL/ 2 Its primary goal is to accelerate the development of social and technical infrastructures that promote the open sharing of data worldwide. Currently RDA represents more than 6,400 members from 133 countries. Their activities comprise 32 short-term Working Groups, 61 long-term Interest Groups, and 14 National Groups, each working together to develop the policies, programs, and tools necessary to eliminate the social and technical barriers to data sharing and re-use. Paolo Budroni, Addis Ababa, 21 FEB 2018 – NADRE Meeting – Towards the Ethiopian Knowledge Society

Research Data Alliance Austria /1 Research Data Alliance Austria (RDA-AT) is a new RDA node dedicated to representing emerging research and data management communities throughout Austria. RDA-AT will operate as a formal participant of RDA Europe, the European “plug-in” to RDA, which ensures that European political, research, industrial and digital infrastructure stakeholders are aware of, engaged with, and actively involved in global RDA activities. Paolo Budroni, Addis Ababa, 21 FEB 2018 – NADRE Meeting – Towards the Ethiopian Knowledge Society

Research Data Alliance Austria /2 As part of RDA Europe, RDA-AT will form a direct link between Austrian data management initiatives and RDA Working and Interest Groups, providing assistance in adoption of RDA recommendations, and allowing Austrian stakeholders to benefit directly from RDA Europe support mechanisms. These new linkages will effectively bring key Austrian issues to the global data management table, and bring global discussions back to Austria. Paolo Budroni, Addis Ababa, 21 FEB 2018 – NADRE Meeting – Towards the Ethiopian Knowledge Society

RDA Austria’s primary responsibilities Facilitating both national and transnational engagements, including the creation of formal Working Groups to address data-related issues critical to the Austrian research community and the public at large Organizing events and trainings that support the adoption of best practices in research data management across Austria Providing an incubation space for the development of shared services and common standards, including policy development, data management planning, and infrastructure interoperability requirements Paolo Budroni, Addis Ababa, 21 FEB 2018 – NADRE Meeting – Towards the Ethiopian Knowledge Society

RDA Austria’s primary responsibilities Serve as an information conduit and professional connector for international activities, including the European Open Science Cloud and the EGI Federated Cloud Promoting local adoption of RDA recommendations with the support of RDA seed funding Initiating new linkages among Austrian research data stakeholders And whatever else the Austrian research community needs in order to remove barriers to data sharing, access, and reuse Paolo Budroni, Addis Ababa, 21 FEB 2018 – NADRE Meeting – Towards the Ethiopian Knowledge Society
