2010 Census Responding Today, Investing in Tomorrow Community Foundations in NYC and Long Island raised and distributed pooled funds Supported trusted local groups uniquely suited to mobilizing hard to count communities Resulted in increased participation rates in targeted areas No comparable efforts in upstate New York NYC/Long Island efforts were not sufficient to compensate for significant undercounts in the rest of the state

2020 Focus Responding Today, Investing in Tomorrow New York State Census Equity Fund with statewide focus Grants will focus on three main areas: community education and mobilization, advocacy at the state level, and technical assistance 1st round of grants have been distributed Hudson Valley 2020 Census fund raised nearly $300,000 80% of funds to be granted locally, 20% as part of statewide pool

Participation by Community Based Organizations is Critical Responding Today, Investing in Tomorrow Participation by Community Based Organizations is Critical Local efforts, led and communicated by trusted messengers, will be key to complete count efforts Trusted messengers are local messengers – e.g. health care providers, teachers, librarians, family members, religious leaders and those of community based organizations Complete Count Committees are being formed at the state, county and local level to bring together government and diverse organizations to educate, raise community awareness and motivate census participation, with a focus on hard-to- count groups
