Title of Presentation dd.mm.yyyy 2-in-1 Product Solution Temporary & permanent application with one product www.deltabloc.co.uk DELTA BLOC - We develop safety.

Experience Through our experience of both the temporary and permanent safety barrier markets we have developed a solution that solves a number of site issues with one product DELTA BLOC DB 80E precast concrete barrier system can provide a ‘2-in-1’ temporary/permanent barrier solution for the client If used effectively this can result in increased programme efficiencies with significant cost savings

System Solutions The standard approach to work zone protection is to use two strings of temporary barrier to protect both road users and road workers Steel or concrete temporary barrier surface mounted on the carriageway is normally used for this application

DELTA BLOC SB 70 – M1 J13-15 SMP

System Solutions DELTA BLOC propose that there are more efficient ways of providing the required work zone protection

Phase 1 Existing Carriageway

System Solutions With the ‘2-in-1’ approach, first DELTA BLOC DB 80E is used as a temporary barrier to protect road workers in the central reserve When the system is installed surface mounted on the asphalt it has performance characteristics comparable to normal temporary systems used for this application

Phase 2 Narrow Lanes + TM + CR Preparation

System Solutions Central reserve works are then carried out including the construction of a suitable foundation for the DELTA BLOC DB 80E high containment rigid concrete barrier

Phase 2 Narrow Lanes + TM + CR Preparation

System Solutions Once the advance central reserve works are complete the DELTA BLOC DB 80E barrier is then laterally shifted to its permanent location

Phase 3 Narrow Lanes + TM + CR Preparation + Lateral Shift DB 80E to Final Position

System Solutions Finishing works in the central reserve then continue including laying of asphalt surfacing up to the sides of the DELTA BLOC DB 80E Once the asphalt embedment of the barrier is complete the DELTA BLOC DB 80E performs as a H2 high containment rigid concrete barrier that meets the Highways England requirements for a central reserve barrier on the motorway

Phase 4 Narrow Lanes + TM + CR Preparation + Lateral Shift DB 80E to Final Position + Finishing Works + Removal of TM

Cost Reduction If DELTA BLOC DB 80E permanent barrier is first used in a temporary application, it eliminates the cost of rental and removal of one of the two strings of temporary barrier required to protect the work zone

Cost Reduction

Cost Reduction

Cost Reduction £4,798,150

Practical Solution The ‘2-in-1’ solution does not involve any plant, people or materials that are not already being deployed to site to achieve the same aims The key to the solution is making better use of alternative products to achieve the same public and road worker safety goals

Highways England Highways England has recognised that a key lever in meeting their objectives for the enhancement of the Strategic Road Network is to increase the use of pre-fabricated components through off-site manufacture This has already led to a significant increase in the use of DELTA BLOC DB 80E permanent precast rigid concrete barrier in the central reserve as opposed to using traditional slipform construction So why are the benefits of using the DELTA BLOC DB 80E as a ‘2-in-1’ solution not been further exploited by clients?
