Federalists v. Anti-Federalists Came about after what war? Revolutionary War After we won this war, we wanted what type of national gov’t. & why? Weak So it wouldn’t be like that of Great Britain What document was created after this war to create this type of gov’t.? Articles of Confederation What were some major problems with this document? It had no national executive or judicial branches & the legislative branch was weak We had no national standing army to kick the British troops out of their forts We couldn’t solve disputes between states We had no ability to raise $ to pay for the war What group came along and called for a new Constitution that would create a strong nat’l. gov’t. Federalists (James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, & George Washington) What group opposed this group and wanted to retain strong state governments & individual rights? Anti-Federalists
