Come in quietly and copy your homework Come in quietly and copy your homework. Answer the following in the back of your notebook (RESTATE THE QUESTION IN YOUR ANSWER) 1. Describe how heat will move in the below scenario. A cup of steaming hot coffee is placed on a marble countertop. 2. In your own words define the following words. After you have finished defining the three types of heat transfer, DRAW an example of each and use arrows to show how heat is moving. Conduction Convection Radiation

Heat Transfer Stations Complete heat transfer scenarios found on the class set. Card sort – check answers using loose leaf– copy three items (description of how heat moves and 2 examples) into the back of your notebook to use as notes. When finished, move to another station or work on heat transfer practice problems (packet) IXL questions – incorporates data and the idea that heat moves from areas of high heat to areas of low heat (and cannot increase unless an energy source is present) Heat Transfer Real Life Scenarios – Research two using the directions and website provided then create your own real life example on a piece of computer paper – be sure to use the directions/checklist

Heat Transfer IXL Questions Before beginning this activity, answer the below questions… 1. Heat always moves from areas of _________ heat to ____________. Circle your answer for the below statements to make them true. 2. Surroundings means the area in/around something. 3. An insulator while keep a hot object warmer for longer/less time. Answer: 4. If placed next to a cooler object, will a hot object ever get hotter due to an insulator? 5. If a colder object is placed next to a warmer object, will the colder object ever get hotter (both are placed inside an insulated box)? Explain use the law of conservation of energy.

Visit the following website and use the drop down menu or the left to select an “Example.” Challenge yourself to identify the ways heat would move in this example. Then, check your answer by clicking on heat transfer type and reading the blurb/observe the changes to the picture. In your notebook, illustrate and label two total examples of heat transfer in real life (i.e. Earth Science example and Life Science example). https://pbslm- contrib.s3.amazonaws.com/WGBH/conv 16/conv16-int- thermalenergy/index.html#/ Research Click on the tree bar button on the top left-hand side to get to the drop down main menu.

Heat Transfer Poster Requirements Think about ways heat in constantly moving around you and transferring from one location to another. Select an example of heat transfer which encompasses (includes) all three forms of heat transfer and neatly present your example on a piece of computer paper. Use the checklist below for full credit. Heat Transfer Poster   Requirements Neatly draw and color an illustration of a natural, real-life occurrence that represents all three types of heat transfer. 2pt Label the illustration to indicate where convection, conduction, and radiation each occur. 2pt Indicate the initial heat source. 2pt Draw arrows to show the direction in which the heat moves. 2pt Write an explanation as to why you chose your example. 2pt
