The IndianaMap Vision: To create and maintain a comprehensive statewide geospatial data resource that: Leverages geospatial data assets to maximize benefit to Hoosiers (build once use many times) Uses the best available data from all levels of government, academia, and the private sector Is easily and freely available to the public for viewing or to download 1

The IndianaMap: A Brief History Mid-2002 Indiana GIS Atlas made available to the public Indiana Geographic Information Council adopts by-laws as a 501(c) corporation (5/16/2002) Mid 2000 – GIS data compilation and creation for I-69 Tier 1 EIS was initiated, Mid 2001 – Southwestern Indiana GIS was completed for INDOT, Mid 2002 – a website was available to the public for distribution of the GIS data developed for INDOT At about the same time, May 16 2002, IGIC was born as a 501(c) non profit

The IndianaMap: A Brief History From IGS News Archives Monday, 02.24.2003 New Developments... Interactive Maps Viewer The GIS Atlas for Indiana Monday, 02.24.2003 New Developments... The Interactive Maps viewer was updated with new functionality. The GIS Atlas for Indiana home page was updated with a new look. There are now 46 downloadable layers contained in the GIS Atlas for Indiana.

The IndianaMap: A Brief History January 1 to December 31, 2004 50 new layers added in 2004 Environmental layers Census and demographic data Legislative boundaries Zip Code Areas, School Districts, and more 19 layers updated or corrected Watershed boundaries Aerial photos (DOQQs) Total Layers = 210

The IndianaMap: A Brief History October 29, 2005 The Indiana State Government GIS Center of Excellence is formed The Indiana State Government GIS Center of Excellence is formed by way of a Memorandum of Understanding that brought together the Indiana Office of Technology, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Health, Department of Transportation, and the Department of Environmental Management to “leverage existing GIS investments and resources within state of Indiana agencies to meet the current and future needs of state government, as well as to provide support and guidance to all state agencies in the use of GIS.”

The IndianaMap: A Brief History From IGS News Archives Wednesday, 08.16.2006 New Layers... 2005 Aerial Photos (450,000 page views) The photos can be downloaded from Indiana University Information Technology Services (averaged about 50,000 requests per month in 2007) Wednesday, 08.16.2006 New Layers... 2005 Aerial Photos Industrial Parks (INDOT) Two new layers and some updates were added in August 2005. In addition, a layer has been added that shows locations of industrial parks (Indiana Department of Transportation). Updated layers... The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Office of Land Quality, provided updated versions of their layers (18 layers). The color aerial photos taken in Spring, 2005, as part of the Statewide Orthophotography Project (provided by Indiana University, University Information Technology Services) were also added that month. On the first day the site had 23,000 unique visitors and 450,000 page views. The photos can be downloaded from Indiana University Information Technology Services (averaged about 50,000 requests per month in 2007) 2005 Orthophotography Project Partners: Indiana Counter Terrorism and Security Council All Indiana Counties State Emergency Management Agency US Geological Survey Indiana Department of Environmental Management Indiana Department of Natural Resources Indiana Criminal Justice Agency IMAGIS Indiana Geographic Information Council, Inc.

The IndianaMap: A Brief History From IGS News Archives Tuesday, 01.23.2007 New Layer... Surveyor Tie Cards (IGIC) A new layer showing "Surveyor Tie Cards" has been added to the interactive map. Tuesday, 01.23.2007 New Layer... Surveyor Tie Cards (IGIC) A new layer showing "Surveyor Tie Cards" has been added to the interactive map. A "tie card" is a written description of the location of a corner of a Section within the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). The layer shows points where scanned (PDF) images of tie cards are available for viewing.

The IndianaMap: A Brief History On July 1, 2007, a state Geographic Information Office was created by Indiana Code 4-23-7.3 On July 1, 2007, a state Geographic Information Office was created by Indiana Code 4-23-7.3 to coordinate GIS activities statewide, and specifically, to: Facilitate GIS data cooperation among units of the federal, state, and local governments; Integrate GIS data and framework data developed and maintained by state agencies and political subdivisions into the statewide base map; Acquire, publish, store, and distribute GIS data; Coordinate with state educational institutions to promote formal GIS education opportunities and informal GIS learning opportunities throughout Indiana.

The IndianaMap: A Brief History Tuesday, June 03, 2008.   Merger of GIS Atlas with IndianaMap The name of the Web site has been changed to IndianaMap. Total Layers > 300   Tuesday, June 03, 2008. Merger of GIS Atlas with IndianaMap The name of the Web site has been changed to IndianaMap. This change reflects a collaborative effort by the Indiana Geographic Information Officer, Indiana Office of Technology; Indiana Geological Survey; Indiana Department of Transportation; Indiana Geographic Information Council; and others to continue development of a single statewide map for Indiana. Although the name and appearance of the Web site have changed, its functionality and content will continue to be enhanced and regularly updated, as before.
