Trustees Report and Strategic Priorities Update What we’re doing well at: 65% of students have a positive view of the SU 61% of students thought the SU has a positive impact on their student experience. Key campaigns that reached students: NSS Boycott; Mental Health; and Fix Fees. Rebrand successful 3

Trustees Report and Strategic Priorities Update What we need to improve: Only 23% of students thought that the SU had increased its presence on campus 53% of students did not feel involved with the SU Students said they wanted more events More creative opportunities 4

Highlights this year (2017-18) Extra Curricular: 13% increase in student engagement in our Arts Active programme Academic: Tackled the attainment gap, created a zine on decolonising the curriculum, established the Attainment Network, Attainment conference held for UAL staff Elections: Converted to paper-less voting system, which saw an increase in the number of students voting at all levels of study Sports and Societies: Gained 10 new societies this year Beat Goldsmiths 8-4 at Varsity Cost of Study: Major research into this topic, decreased the rent for 39% of beds in UAL halls, reduced printing costs by 20% on MFDs; and reduced the cost of UAL ticketed events Course Reps 44% increase in the number of Course Reps giving feedback Environmental In response to your feedback, we sell discounted moon cups Support and Advice: Supported over 1,000 new student support and advice cases; working with UAL to roll consent training, established a student parent working group 5

Trustees Report and Strategic Priorities Update We are in the first year of our strategic plan The new plan address all the changes that are happening at UAL and Arts SU Four Themes – Together with students we will:  We will offer creative opportunities which are out of the box and of the classroom. We will be a Union which listens and acts, ensuring that we are a positive agent for change in our colleges, University and community. We will be a supportive environment which provides networked communities and enable students to succeed during their time at UAL. We will work with UAL to ensure education is accessible for and reflective of student at UAL. 6

Dashboards, Impacts and Insights Students have told us that they want to understand more about the aims and progress of the organisation. We have developed public dashboards with progress towards KPIs. Students have told us that they don’t think we do enough - we will be launching an annual public-facing impact report. Students have also told us that we aren’t doing enough to tailor what we provide to the student population, so we launched an insight project. 8

Appointment of the Auditors Currently Crowe Clarke Whitehill. Proposal to continue. CCW are a mid-tier firm but are charity specialists ranked #1 in Charity Finance Audit Survey for charity expertise and market share and =2 for overall service. VOTE 10
