Connected Cars: C-V2X to support traffic safety and automated driving C-V2X on the way to 5G November, 2018 Uwe.Puetzschler@nokia.com The automotive industry and the transportation sector are in the middle of an exciting transformation affected by major trends like: move to eMobility, connected vehicles, new business models (car sharing) and fully automated driving. These trends will have a huge impact on traffic safety and efficiency as well as driving comfort. The new technologies will have a dramatic impact on how we buy, use and share cars, revolutionize the driving experience, help save lives and make our transportation systems smarter and more efficient. Information and communication technologies play an increasingly important role with advanced communications and computing architectures, wireless ultra broadband connectivity, low latency for mission critical communications, security and data privacy, data analytics, cloud based optimizations and services across functional domains. These technologies have to be integrated into the vehicle platforms and optimized with the local embedded sensing and computing capabilities.

5GAA Update

5GAA, Driving Connected Mobility Forward 5GAA brings together the automotive and telecommunications industries to accelerate the global deployment of Cellular Vehicle-To-Everything (C-V2X) as a first step towards a fully integrated intelligent transport system with 5G Automotive Industry Vehicle Platform, Hardware and Software Solutions telecommunications Connectivity and Networking Systems, Devices and Technologies 5GAA unites 100+ members* from around the world working together on all aspects of C-V2X including technology, standards, spectrum, policy, regulations, testing, business models and go-to-market 5GAA is a global, cross industry organisation that brings together the voices of the automotive and telecommunications industries. The association is composed of 5 distinct and interrelated working groups that define and develop end-to-end solutions for future mobility and transportation services. 5GAA unites and -through discussion, debate, analysis and use cases- drives consensus and alignment between all key stakeholders. Through 5GAA our two industries are able to speak as one global, integrated voice. We believe that C-V2X is the ultimate technology solutions to bring safety on all Roads in Europe and benefit from the support of the complete mobility ecosystem! *as of Oct 2018

5GAA Working Areas New Radio Joint Ecosystem Vehicle to Smart Device “Define the next step” - accelerate definition of 5G- V2X based on 5G New Radio Push V2N Ensure functional rollout of V2N based applications in order to reach broad penetration fast Joint Ecosystem Create a joint eco system between car – smartphone - home Interoperability Ensure cross OEM cars and cross operator networks can „speak“ with each other Edge Computing Undertline Edge Computing as one of the key elements of the connected future Vehicle to Smart Device V2X-based vehicle interface for smartphone controlled functions

Nokia’s V2X mission

Nokia’s mission: Meet automotive industry needs with reliable and enhanced Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) communication technology for the deployment of connected fully automated vehicles. Establish 5G as communication technology of choice, starting with advanced LTE capabilities In order to support traffic safety and HAD apps better we are on a mission: 1. Start with LTE and the way to 5G (5G for safety in cars is many years away: standards for cars have been postponed, first rel. 14 (LTE) chipset will be in commercial cars only in 2020/21) 2. Use the full suite of LTE capabilities for connected cars: standard LTE MEC NB-IoT LTE V2V/V2I available with rel.14
