What is the Metric System? International System of Units Known as SI Uniform system used by scientists world wide for measuring length, mass, volume and temperature All units are based on the number 10

Length – how long an object is Base unit is the meter (m) Measured with a ruler or meter stick

Volume - the amount of space an object takes up Base unit is the liter (L) Measured with graduated cylinders or meter stick (L x W x H)

Mass – the amount of matter that makes up an object The base unit is the gram (g) Measured with a triple beam balance

Temperature – how hot or cold something is Base unit is degrees in Celsius Measured with a thermometer
