Imagine…   …That cell phones were only legal in some states for children 15 years and younger.  In this situation, New York does not allow children under 15 to own a cell phone. South Carolina does. You and your family move to South Carolina for a brief period of time. During that time, you get a cell phone. Soon after, you move back to New York. Is it okay for the New York government to take away your phone once you are back in New York, even though you got it legally in South Carolina? How would you react if this happened to you? Explain.

Scott wanted to become a free citizen. Scott said that since he lived in a free territory, he is a free man. Since there was so much tension between the North and South, the Supreme Court did not want to make a decision that could cause the South to secede. Slaves were considered property and could not sue. Further, slavery was now allowed everywhere in the U.S.
