The NHSI Culture change programme – developing cultures of compassion Dr Katy Steward, March 2019

A national programme which focuses on culture and collective leadership

Behaviours are key A small number of big behaviours make the difference to how people feel about coming to work: Am I supported by my leader to be able to do the job I want to be do? Am I listened to? Do I feel appreciated and recognised in my team, by my leaders and by other teams? Do I see people behaving positively and with a sense of cautious optimism? Culture is all about behaviour: the way we do things around here We know this from the rigs Chief executive who saw a blanket taken off – this is not the kind of culture we want How leaders behave is a big determinant of culture.

What’s been achieved .. And still to come Learning about your leadership – to be kinder There is clear and positive progress in the culture Socialising the behaviours - leadership development, this conference Board sign-off & support for the leadership approach A refreshed vision and values Teamwork Appraisals Keep going!
