CIC-START Call for Applications Informational Webinar Welcome and thank you for your interest Thank you for your interest in DASH

What we talk about when we talk about multi-sector data So, let’s talk about this new field of multi-sector data, give you a couple of examples, and then talk about who we are at All In and how we are trying to build this field.

Networking and Relationships DASH Focus Fund and support multi-sector community collaborations to increase their capacity to test, implement, and document innovative practices Disseminate lessons and successful practices to build the evidence base for the field Cultivate broad stakeholder relationships to co-create a national movement to support community-based initiatives Grantee Support Evidence Base Networking and Relationships

All In: Data for Community Health Current Program Partners Past Partners

All In: Partner Focus and Network Mission Partners support local initiatives: All In supports national impact: Data and Information Sharing A movement around the social determinants of health An evidence base for the field A network powered by peer learning and collaboration Multi-sector Partners Collaborative Effort

CIC-START Purpose and Activities Purpose: Support targeted, short-term activities that build skills and capacity to engage partners from multiple sectors in planning for shared data systems systematically share data across sectors, and/or design or implement initiatives based on shared multi-sector data that support community goals Potential Activities (non-exhaustive) Advance the accessibility, transparency, or analytic capability of an existing multi-sector data system (ex. developing an app) or adding a data source from a new sector Use data from a multi-sector system to support the collaboration’s goals Develop, test, and/or implement a collaborative multi-sector data governance model Engage community members, individual consultants, or other experts to address a problem or opportunity Document or codify processes; create internal or external communication or education materials Leverage additional funds leading to a greater, specific outcome

CIC-START Call for Applications Up to 15 organizations Up to $25,000 contracts (90% on award, 10% on final report) Up to 6 months project duration Timeline June 28, 2019 Applications are due (3:30 pm Eastern Time) August 2019 Awardees are notified September 3, 2019 Contracts are initiated

CIC-START Eligibility Criteria Have at least one active profile in the All In online community at allin.healthdoers.org Strong, active relationships among organizations in two or more sectors that have roles relevant to specific, mutually acknowledged community health or community wellbeing goals or objectives. Have a multi-sector shared data project documented to be in the planning, implementation, scaling or evaluation phase of sharing data or using connected information systems. A clearly defined problem and work plan that your collaboration can address with the contract funds A 501(c)(3) organization based in the United States or its territories We want to allow enough time for questions, but before then, we’ll walk through the eligibility and selection criteria, activities, and application process. As Peter states, much of this is found in the brochure so I won’t read off the slides too much.

Joining the All In Learning Collaborative Individual stakeholders register and create profiles at allin.healthdoers.org (Be sure that everyone in your group enters the same “collaborative/project name”) The project will receive a questionnaire to fill out details for the Project group snapshot Members will complete the Capacity Assessment To create a profile… I would mention that once individuals are in, they can start participating by accessing resources, etc. And on the event calendar, they will see regular Zoom orientation hangouts “Welcome to All In” on Thursday or Friday afternoons where they can ask any question and learn more about how to use the platform and participate in the collaborative.

DASH Selection Criteria An articulated project plan and timeline, with a clear outcome and deliverables, responsive to the “START” criteria: Strategic – Degree to which the contract advances the overall collaboration purposes and goals Timely – Degree to which the proposed contract address an immediate or urgent need or opportunity Actionable – Likelihood that the contract is practical and can be accomplished as planned Replicable – Likelihood that the lessons generated in the contract will be instructive or relevant for other communities Targeted – Has a specific aim and direction, either relationally, systematically or geographically We are looking for contracts with an articulated project plan…. I just said the first START words and didn’t read the description of them.

DASH Selection Criteria Consideration of the proposed activities’ impact on equity Evidence of documented achievements in engaging stakeholders from health care, public health, socials services, and other sectors Variety of non-health sectors represented in the collaboration How completing the work will contribute to progress in a broader collaborative plan towards shared data and improved health Description of benefits or increased capacity for associated community organizations and sectors involved in the project Intention to share lessons and experience in the All In network Degree to which the budget, budget narrative, and work plan support the activities and deliverables proposed

CIC-START Awardee Activities and Support Update profile on the All In virtual platform (allin.healthdoers.org) and participate in CIC-START activities there Periodic (every one-two months) check-in calls with DASH staff Final report and exit interview focused on challenges encountered, lessons learned and opportunities for adaptation and replication Additional support could include: Staff participation in low-effort in-person meetings Staff support for communications and materials development Staff support for documentation of activities and outcomes Financial support for presenting at conferences or meetings, and staff support for developing presentations Once awarded, awardee activities will include: … - A 30-minute monthly calls with DASH staff to hear status updates and activities Providing a final report at the end of the contract period and sharing lessons learned, challenges to the All In community. We are also available to provide support through low-effort in-person meetings, developing communication materials…

Application link is found at http://dashconnect.org/cic-start/ How to Apply Application link is found at http://dashconnect.org/cic-start/ Application Requirements Key Contacts Applicant Organization Project Summary Eligibility Criteria Project Information Questions Budget Worksheet and Budget Questions Support Documents (CV, Letters of Support, Financial statement, Work Plan, Optional documents) The link to apply can be found on the website… Might be worth highlighting that the summary should include the most pertinent information, they’ll have a chance to elaborate a little bit in the questions but not much. If they’re struggling with the word count, the limited and short-term opportunity may not be clear enough to them to seek the funding right now. There are 7 sections for the application, listed here. We also ask to include supporting documents such as CV, Letters of Support, Financial Statements, and work plan for the duration of your contract.

Eight Tips for a Successful Application Carefully note the deadline date, time and time zone: June 28, 2019, 3:30 pm Eastern Time When experiencing difficulty with the online application system, which may result in missing the deadline, applicants should contact their program administrator immediately. (info@dashconnect.org) Complete your application online instead of offline. Submit your application well in advance of the deadline We are using RWJF’s application system and they provided tips to submit the application successfully. Deadline time is always shown as Eastern Time (ET). Confusion is not an acceptable excuse for missing the deadline. The email should include the documents and/or content you were unable to upload. As soon as possible, look for templates and detailed instructions in the online application site to guide you in submitting the appropriate information in the required format. Applications that are not fully completed online by the deadline, and in the specified format, will not be accepted. This year, RWJF’s system automatically saves every few minutes to prevent losing your work. so that any unforeseen difficulties can be addressed.

Eight Tips for a Successful Application Don’t create a duplicate application to replace one you started but can’t find. As you enter information in the online application system, use the “Save” button often. When completed, use the “Save, section finished” button located at the bottom of the screen (you will still be able to edit until you submit). Remember to press the “Submit” button when you've completed your application. Have a backup person lined up in advance to step in for you in the event of an emergency. Instead, email info@dashconnect.org to help you find your original application. Multiple partially completed applications don’t qualify as a whole application. You will still be able to return to that section to make edits prior to submission. Most screens in the online system allow you to save your work three different ways: “Save, continue editing” “Save, return home” “Save, section finished” 7. When all required fields and uploads are completed in the online application system, the “Submit” button will become activated on the upper right side of the “Home” screen, just below the “Instruction” box. After successfully submitting, applicants will receive a submission-confirmation email. If you didn't get a "Submission Confirmation“ email when you thought you had submitted successfully, return to the application and look for the submission status on the “Home” screen. A successfully submitted application will display “Submitted” with a date and time. If you don’t see a submitted message, look to the left for sections that don't have a green checkmark in the “Status” column. Those are the sections that are either incomplete, or have not been properly saved as finished. 8. You can "Invite Contributors" to be a backup. Be sure your backup has access to submit for you.

Questions? Q&A Notes from CIC-START 3: 501(c) status Internal and external (i.e. consulting) use of the grant and money What should documentation of a multi-sector shared data project look like in our application? How do you define sectors? Issue/concern about similar ideas but not getting funded due to those ideas being previously funded? How competitive the grant is?

Contact Us For questions, contact info@dashconnect.org Applicant questions will be posted on dashconnect.org and the RWJF’s application resource page DASH does not guarantee answers to questions asked after June 28.
