Reading in Reception Autumn Term 2 2018

Reading at Home In addition to class library books the children will start to bring home a book from the Reading Scheme. During our guided reading activities children will have shared part of the book with their teacher. This book will then be sent home for children to read with parents and carers. We would ask that these books are looked after and returned to school a week later. Reading days are Wednesday for RJS and RTB Thursday for RSW and REW Please look on the weekly update on the blog as we do sometimes need to change these.

Reading records Each child will have their own reading record. This needs to come into school every week on Reading Day. Inside we will keep a list of the books they have taken home. There are spaces for parents and carers to record when children have read at home. Lists of phonic sounds – tricky words

Reading Rocket rewards We are encouraging children to develop a love of reading and we are rewarding reading and sharing books at home. We would ask that children read 3 times in the week to get a tick on the reading rocket. If they read 6 times they can have 2 ticks. (Please note it is not a competition!) Please can we encourage you to share a range of reading materials comics, magazines favourite books from home, class library books, books from Stourbridge library etc. Please don’t feel that you need to read the Reading Scheme book 3 times. The ticks will build up into rewards and children will receive bookmarks, pencils. (Information is inside the reading record book)

Thank you Please can we ask that all books are returned to school each week as if one book is missing the set cannot be used by others. If books are lost or damaged we will be asking for a payment to cover the cost of a replacement. Thank you for your support with reading at home the children really benefit from time sharing books with family.
