Brave New World Lesson 13 Death can be the most powerful criticism of life: the truth about life. Because I’m going to die, all my values, all my priorities, need be redefined, acquire a new meaning or lose an old one.

Brave New World Lesson 13 In modern literature, death is often linked to punishment: the baddies die, the goodies survive.

Brave New World Lesson 13 Of all sources of anguish, death is certainly the greatest and potentially the most destabilizing one. BNW must control the entire cycle of life, both birth to death

Brave New World Lesson 13 Why was John called to the hospital? A special treatment? Again there’s a clash between the reality of BNW and the requirements of narration.

Brave New World Lesson 13 Everything is grossly exaggerated, but there’s a serious element of truth: for us too death is becoming less and less of a tragic event – more like a biological step. Separation between the fear of suffering and the anxiety about a possible afterlife.

Brave New World Lesson 13 An inversion of values: one would think that the mentioning in this context of the Other Place refers to heaven or anyway to some kind of afterlife, but no, the Other Place is simply BNW. Paradise is now, and to die means to leave paradise: an awful prospect.
