Objectives At the end of this session you will be able to: Identify the causes of fire Recognise the importance of fire prevention Recognise the various fire extinguishers within your workplace State what actions to take if you discover a fire within your workplace

Causes of Fire Refuse/rubbish accumulation Electricity Gas Incorrect storage of hazardous materials (e.g. cleaning fluids) Smoking Arson

Fire Prevention Some measures you can take are: Adopt and maintain a ‘Good Housekeeping’ attitude Only smoke in designated areas Report failings in fire precautions Do not allow rubbish to accumulate Ensure combustible material is stored safely Ensure access and exit routes are free from obstructions Do not tamper with equipment provided to fight fire (e.g. using fire extinguishers as door stops)
