• CSU/UC approved lab science • 2nd year course: review biology concepts from Integrated Science /add new and related concepts • Greater depth, vocabulary, application of concepts, higher level* questions and explanations Diverse population - students making up lost IS credits to honors students EX: evolution (review) leads into systematics (new)

*Blooms Taxonomy Knowledge - recall facts, vocabulary Comprehension - describe, compare & contrast Application - relate, apply, demonstrate Analysis - infer, cause and effect, cite evidence Synthesis - hypothesize, compile, generalize Evaluation - interpret, conclude, recognize bias Bloom, B.S. Taxonomy of educational objectives. Allyn and Bacon, Boston, MA. 1984

Expectations Behavior: • On time, on task, and engaged • Respectful Work: • Analytical thinking and writing • Demonstrate understanding of scientific process as well as biology concepts • Academic language, presentation

College-readiness skills • Encourage responsibility , accountability, problem-solving • Attitude shift : from ‘getting it done’ to ‘I get it’ • Shift focus from grade to learning Struggle is okay - learn to persevere
