A producer is an organism that gets its energy from the sun. Example: sunflower plant.
How do organisms get energy?. Getting Energy Food chain – a sequence of connected producers and consumers Producer – an organism that makes its own food.
Decomposers are organisms that eat dead or decaying organisms. They carry out the natural process of decomposition. Fungi is the primary and most common.

Food Pyramids/Food Webs Ecology 2.0 Food Pyramids/Food Webs

Write as many animals as you can that don’t need to eat.

Food Chain/Food Web- diagrams that show feeding relationships between different species. Provide a model of how energy flows through an ecosystem.

Producers Producers- organisms that can make their own food through photosynthesis. Example: Plants

Consumers Consumer- organisms that cannot make their own food and must get energy form other living organisms. Example: Lion Name the Producer and Consumer ?

Decomposers Decomposer- organisms that get nutrients and energy by breaking down remains of dead organisms or animal waste. Example: Bacteria & Fungi

Key point- Decomposers Decomposers recycle nutrients like carbon and nitrogen back into the environment so producers can use them.

What two key elements are returned to the atmosphere by decomposers?

Answer Carbon and Nitrogen

Is this always the case?

How could you add decomposers to this food chain?

Herbivore- feed on plants only Carnivore-feed on animal flesh only Omnivore- feed on both plants and animal flesh

What are you?

Food Web Food Web- More complex series of food chains

Zombie Apocalypse

Only one producer can survive. Only one producer can survive Only one producer can survive. Only one producer can survive! It is your job to choose which producer survives. Explain, in full sentences which producer you would choose and why?
