In this chapter you will learn The difference between internal and external motivation How to put adversity and failure into perspective The impact of self-esteem on your values, motivation, and attitude. Theories of motivation and learning How to use your learning style, dominant intelligence, and personality type to increase your learning power.

SLO Alignment 1.1 Identify their personal learning style as well as strengths and weaknesses as a strategic learner and apply their knowledge to classroom learning. 1.2 Describe basic theories in the psychology of learning, memory, cognition, and motivation. 1.3 Demonstrate the use of learning strategies and study skills. 2.4 Acquire techniques and skills for personal and professional success.

Internal & External Motivation Internal-energy inside of you pushing you to go after what you want. External- external forces or people causing you to do something.

Convert External Motivation Think of how you can benefit from the task. Determine ways to make the task more relevant to you. Ex. Taking a history class as a math major. Driving a sibling back and forth to school.

Mobile research (phone, laptops, iPads, etc. Find two credible sites to address one of the following topics: What was Kristallnacht? Why and how long can a cockroach live without a head, why? Who invented the electric chair, why? What is Sanskrit? How is paper made? Who was Vlad the Impaler? What famous character did his life inspire?

Mobile Research Cont. Explain your topic by answering the question. Discuss your topic by addressing each step of the learning process. Read Learning Through the Ages p. 197 and list the theorist perspective you and your group agree with most.

Understand your strengths, how you learn, and your personality. Complete the following : Multiple Intelligences Survey p. 200 & read Understanding and Using the Eight Intelligences p. 202. Take the LEAD p. 204 & complete learning styles p. 206 Take the PAP p. 207 & read the description pgs. 208-213 Record all of your results.
