Quaichs in Scotland The ‘Quaich’ is a traditional drinking cup in Scotland and is often given as a special gift to commemorate an event, such as a wedding, baptism or special visit. A Quaich is also often given as a prize or trophy for winning sporting and other events in Scotland. The Quaich  is a traditional Scottish drinking cup with two handles (or lugs). The two lugs (which actually means ‘ears’) define it as a cup of friendship. The word ‘Quaich’ derives from the Scottish Gaelic word 'cuach', which is translated as 'cup'. Quaichs have been made from many different materials over the years. The original Quaichs were probably carved from wood, but they have been made variously from clay, silver and most famously, pewter. Our children worked with an artist to design and make their clay Quaichs, learning the techniques of working with clay to produce a decorative finished article based on a real-life traditional object. The Scottish Team has presented a Quaich to each host school we have visited during the project. For Learners Around the Globe

Pictures of the pupils working For Learners Around the Globe

Exhibition of pupils’ work Our exhibition of the children’s Quaichs has been on display for our partners’ visit, our Parents’ Evenings and for the ceremonial opening of our new school hall. The children have now taken them home to display proudly in their own houses. For Learners Around the Globe
