What This Church Needs Revelation 2:1-7
Introduction Organizations Individuals Set goals Make corrections Told to do so (2 Corinthians 13:5) What can we do?
Converted Members Should be unnecessary point Isn’t a Christian “converted?” (Acts 3:19) Haven’t they always changed? Sadly, not always the case
Converted Members . . . Bear the cross daily (Luke 9:23) Be a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1, 2) Are lights in darkness (Matthew 6:13; Philippians 2:15) Are holy (1 Peter 1:15, 16) Let Christ live in them (Galatians 2:20)
Knowledgeable Members Become Christians by learning God’s method (John 6:44, 45) Born again through the Word of God (John 3:3, 5; 1 Peter 1:22-25)
Knowledgeable Members Grow in knowledge A command (2 Peter 3:18) Our food (Acts 20:32; Colossians 3:16; 1 Peter 2:2) Used in exposing false teachers (1 John 4:1; 2 John 9-11) Enables us to teach others (2 Timothy 2:2)
Knowledgeable Members Our means of approval Requires diligence (Acts 17:11; 2 Timothy 2:15) Can’t remain babes (Hebrews 5:11-14)
Concerned Members Who love lost souls Who see the urgency Like Paul (Romans 9:1-3; 10:1) Like Noah (Genesis 6:3; Hebrews 11:7) Who see the urgency Death awaits the sinner (Romans 6:23) The time is now (John 4:35) Can’t warm a pew (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Uncompromising Members Cannot yield to error Paul would not (Galatians 2:5) “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmond Burke)
Uncompromising Members Cannot sacrifice truth for unity Ecumenical concept is wrong Must unite on truth (Ephesians 4:1-6) Morality cannot be compromised (James 4:4) Truth is absolute (2 John 9-11) “Situation ethics” is no ethics
Compatible Members Problems arise due to “contrariness” Pride is at stake, not truth Too many Diotrephes (3 John 9)
Compatible Members Solve our difficulties Abraham and Lot did not (Genesis 13:7) Put others first (Philippians 2:1-4) Allow ourselves to be defrauded (1 Corinthians 6:7) Be loving and forgiving (Ephesians 4:32) Sign of our discipleship (John 13:34, 35)
