CONTAINER TRUCKS CONGESTION IN PORT OF DURRBAN

INTRODUCING THE THREAT Congestion in ports is a phenomena associated with delays, queuing and extra time of voyage and dwell of ships and cargo at the port, which always occur with unpleasant consequences on Logistics and supply chain An increase in road traffic, poor road conditions and other major challenges which we are going to elaborate in the following slides and also going to look at the pollution and the effects of traffic congestion at the Port of Durban.

CONSTRAINT OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION Shortage of space in the port yards. Limited with poor roads condition to access port. Industrial action that entails work stoppage at the port and labor strike. Bad weather that stops ships or cargo operations.

OUR STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME THREAT For the Port to maintain global competitiveness with the current trend of globalization, it has to ensure that roads are well maintained, safe and have a smooth traffic flow with no delays. Establishment of truck depot company Trucks lanes implimetation.

CONCLUSSION port efficiency and international trade could be enhanced if the access roads to the ports could be freed of bottlenecks at all times. Durban and Port Said facilities are the most congestion resistant ports in Africa, largely due to the operational dispensation of the ports and the solid strategies adopted by the ports in managing cargo storage systems
