What are Shadow Systems, and why do we care? Excel work books, access databases, other random files that exist on desktop computers around campus People rely on these as they are missing something from the systems they have been provided Often these systems become an integral part of people’s work flow However They can’t be easily shared May not be getting backed up Could provide large benefits if integrated with other data sources Because they may be perceived as hidden or unknown, others become skeptical of the data

Goals for Today’s Session Explain the different ways to create a table in FAST Manually From Excel How to get data into these tables How to access these tables after they have been created How to use some of the data in these tables to create a Dynamic Filter Procedure

Dynamic Filter Procedure – What is it? Results become the source of a pick list or, filter list Pick List  Used on a data entry form Promotes data integrity by reducing data entry error Makes it easier and more reliable to use data for reporting Filter List  Used on reporting pages
