STANDING WATER FOOTBRIDGE For use when pedestrian access is desired over standing water and the bridge cannot be buried as is customary when crossing small chasms. Instead of rebar anchoring the normal bridge, this bridge rests on 4 x 4 posts seated on one foot wide concrete bases that allow the wooden post to rest dry the majority of the time. 34-35 surface planks, each 1” x 6” x 2’ (chalk line in pre-assembly for pre-drilling guide holes) 2” deck screws affix planking 8” bolts with pre-drilled holes assemble the foundation 18’ 4” x 4” x 18’ foundation (one on each edge – length will vary from site to site) Cement mixed with standing water (no need to carry the water!) 1 ‘ wide, 1 ‘ deep 4” x 4” x 6” base Metal bracket rooted in cement X4 In addition: A 4 x 4 cross-beam in center and at quarter points Conventional bridge ends buried in ground cut as shown below, one on each end, with matching planks. Generally 2” x 10”, bolted to main bridge and anchored on the ground end with adjoining 2” x 4” stakes on each side. 2’ length, same planks as above 6” above ground NOTE: This is a Class 1 footbridge, of short length, in a rural area with very limited foot traffic. By limiting the bridge to 2’ in width, we automatically limit pedestrians to single file. Horses will continue to use existing crossings without a footbridge.
