Here’s an interesting one: this shoes the outer diameter of a component over time. Notice how in one view, you can quickly see exactly what is happening to the average and SD…without having to deconstruct the averages and standard deviations of a control chart we spend more time actually thinking about the variation causes and not guessing what might be causing the average and/or SD charts to change

Here’s one that shows within piece, piece to piece and lot to lot variation. The use of three markers for the within piece location allows us to see that there is a non-random pattern to the within piece variation.
