Lesson 6: Planning a Woodworking Project Curtis Borne, Ph.D. Assignment #2

Drawings and sketches Creating woodworking project plans using simple drawing techniques.

Topics of Discussion 1. Projection drawings contain necessary dimensions to build something dimension line <------- 5”------->

2. Isometric drawings contain two 30 degree angles

3. Oblique Drawings contains all straight lines but one corner is at any angle

4. Purpose of drawings and sketches Overcome mechanical, construction and repair problems

5. Plans (drawings) Are your most important guide

6. Types of lines on drawings dimension line <------- 12”--------> hidden line …………. object line ________________ center line _._._._._

7. Bill of materials Amount, size and kind of each item needed to construct something

8. Advantage of having a bill of materials Saves time and waste

Application- make a projection drawing of a woodworking project such as an Ag. in the Classroom Storage Chest (include a top, front , right end views and a bill of materials).
