Innovation Design approach City Hearing Log Innovation Constant exposure to noise further complicates the life of people affected by hearing impairment. City Hearing Log provides an app which integrates a map of city noise pollution and a diary for people with hearing disabilities, where they can note down their hearing problems and share the log with their audiologists as to improve the calibration process of their hearing devices Design approach Iterative design is required to tune the project in relation to the needs of various users. Participatory design and co-design approaches are implemented, as to involve people with hearing loss, audiologists and city administrators.

Relation to the urbanscape City Hearing Log Relation to the urbanscape City Hearing Log proposes an open access system which can be used in various urban environments, especially in those affected by high levels of noise pollution. The app offers a clear view of the noise conditions of different city areas, so that city administrators can adopt new policies to improve and protect the urban environment and its sound ecology. A pilot will be held in Padova, in collaboration with Natus Medical Incorporated Italy.

City Hearing Log Scaling up prospects We want to provide a service which is not strictly tied to a pre-defined urban context. The application and the front-end are easily adaptable and customizable not only for different age groups but also for various cities, urban environments and for different languages. Our expertise in UX and user engagement along with already established working relations with various stakeholders are key resources to focus our project on a human-centred dimension and to scale the project throughout the whole Europe, where the challenge of noise pollution is widespread.
