FIGURE 1 Radioimmunoassay-determined levels of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (panels A and B), dehydroepiandrosterone (panels C and D), and cortisol (panels E and F) after an 8-hour incubation of fresh adrenal minces with several doses of insulin and testosterone in serum-free medium with 10 μM pregnenolone substrate and 1 μM ACTH. The data represent the combined responses (average steroid level ± standard error) from four female donors (ages 25–57 years), with each donor adrenal incubated in triplicate for each challenge dose.
