Histamine and tryptase levels in patients with acute allergic reactions: An emergency department–based study  Robert Y. Lin, MDa, Lawrence B. Schwartz, MD, PhDc, Arlene Curry, MDb, Gene R. Pesola, MDb, Richard J. Knight, MDb, Huang-Sam Lee, MDb, Leonard Bakalchuk, MDb, Craig Tenenbaum, MDb, Richard E. Westfal, MDa,b  Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology  Volume 106, Issue 1, Pages 65-71 (July 2000) DOI: 10.1067/mai.2000.107600 Copyright © 2000 Mosby, Inc. Terms and Conditions

Fig. 1 Plot of histamine versus total tryptase levels (only for patients who had both determinations). Note logarithmic (base e) scale. Numbers next to diamonds (patients with detectable β-tryptase levels) represent the value of β-tryptase for that patient. Dotted lines show cutoffs for elevated values for each of the mediators. Total tryptase and α-tryptase values are given in nanograms per milliliter, and histamine values are given in nanomoles. The regression plot for histamine levels predicted by tryptase levels is shown in patients who had detectable β-tryptase determinations. There was a significant correlation between total tryptase and histamine levels (Spearman rho = .4538, P = .0339) in these patients.
