States of Matter Aqueelah Maxwell, Jasmine Smith & Tamara Banks Main Street Elementary: 2nd grade Science

Common Core Standards S2CS5. Students will communicate scientific ideas and activities clearly. a. Describe and compare things in terms of number, shape, texture, size, weight, color, and motion. b. Draw pictures (grade level appropriate) that correctly portray features of the thing being described. S2P1. Students will investigate the properties of matter and changes that occur in objects. a. Identify the three common states of matter as solid, liquid, or gas *NOTES FOR ACCOMMODATIONS* Students with disabilities will work with a paraprofessional. English language learners will be partnered with a 'read aloud' partner.

Jade and Timothy are working on a Science experiment in Mrs Jade and Timothy are working on a Science experiment in Mrs. Banks' class. The students begin to argue about the state of matter of the oobleck at certain times during the experiment. Can you help them figure this out? Click on the Brain POP logo to get started!

KWL: FILL IN THE ROWS FOR k & w ONLY What Do You Know? W What Do You Want to Know? L What Did You Learn?

Task You will make OOBLECK today. Your job is to determine when the oobleck is considered a solid or liquid throughout the experiment : Solid or liquid? You decide!

Process: How do we figure it out? You will complete a variety of explorations to help your determine and discover if oobleck is a solid or liquid. Begin by clicking on number 1. 1.What is matter? 2. Make your own website Checklist (Click) Example (Click) 3. Changes of Matter - Prezi 4. Oobleck Experiment Packet Checklist

Use this checklist to develop your website. I have... a title. definition of matter. named the states of matter. 1 or 2 examples of a solid. 1 or 2 examples of a liquid. 1 or 2 examples of a gas. where we can find matter. described the atoms and molecules of matter with text or a picture.

Follow the directions on the video to create your own oobleck. **Feel free to change this video. http://youtu.be/88J0T86psSk

Click on the Google Document below Conclusion Now that you have completed the tasks and oobleck experiment, it is time for you to reflect. Remember what the properties of a solid, liquid, and gas are and how they differ from one another. Type under each question and make sure to type your name after each response.
