Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) ACPC intervenes in two pillars of WISER: Output 1. Strengthened enabling environment for generation, uptake and use of weather and climate services to support sustainable development Output 2. Intellectual leadership in climate science in Africa built through innovative evidence generation and learning. Output 1. Strengthening enabling environment for CIS Customized SEB model for application in i) DRR, ii) agriculture, energy & water nexus using Vensim Software and shared with stakeholders; Mapping of current projects/initiatives/ institutions in the CIS value chain; A community of practice for CIS innovations online platform created and activated for use by various stakeholders in CIS; The WMO CIS data sharing standards and protocols reviewed in context of application in Africa and recommendations provided; Established an RCOFs knowledge sharing partnership – to develop RCOFs best practices. Output 2. Intellectual leadership in climate science Established the Climate Research for Development in Africa (CR4D) Secretariat; CR4D governance structures including Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), Institutional Collaboration Platform (ICP) and Oversight Board created; The 5-year CR4D strategic programme and three major thematic areas for the research grant management identified; CR4D grant management mechanism framework established. Data sharing practices Based on WMO resolution 40 Objectives: Review the application of the resolution Identify best practices and success stories Highlight barriers to data sharing And ultimately provide recommendations to promote their use to support CIS uptake in the African continent Requirements of Res 40 All members (NMHSs) shall provide on a free and unrestricted basis, essential data and products for the provision of services in support to protection of life, property.
