Lesson 1 6 factors influencing alcohols effects are body size, gender, food, rate of intake, amount and medicine Some long term effects of alcohol are addiction, loss of brain function, brain damage, heart damage and high blood pressure Alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis deal with the liver Binge drinking can lead to alcohol poisoning
Lesson 2 Factors influencing alcohol use are peer pressure, family and media messages It is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to buy, possess or consume alcohol Teens who use alcohol are more likely to become sexually active at an earlier age, engage in unprotected sexual activity, and contract an STD People who use alcohol as teens are four more times likely to develop alcoholism than someone who waits until adulthood
Lesson 3 BAC depends on quantity and type of alcohol that was consumed, the rate of consumption, body size and gender Infants born to mothers who drink during pregnancy are at a risk of fetal alcohol syndrome Symptoms of alcoholism are craving, loss of control, physical dependence and tolerance 8 factors contributing to alcoholism are genetics, family, friends, culture, peer pressure, availability of alcohol, stress, and age at which a person starts drinking
Lesson 3 Stages of alcoholism are abuse, dependence and addiction 40 percent of violent crimes are alcohol related Addiction cant be cured, but it can be treated Steps for alcoholism recovery are admission, detoxification, counseling and recovery Do not let friends just “Sleep it off!!”
