Dollar Branch A 45 acre abandoned coal preparation and washing facility located at the head of Greasy Creek in Harlan County Poorly vegetated coal refuse with many acidic seeps polluting Greasy Creek Dangerous concrete structures Illegal dumping

Hazardous Structures

TREATING ACID WATER THEN RELEASING

PLAYING IN THE MUD

Covering the coal refuse with soil after treating with limestone sand.

Limestone sand was applied to the graded refuse, incorporated and then covered with soil material.

2 feet of soil material was placed over the coal refuse.

Native stone was gleaned from the cover material for use as rip-rap.

After incorporating ag -lime and fertilizer ; seed was applied and the site was mulched.

The finished product September, 1999
