Field Placement Information and Process Students begin their Field Placements in September Field placements must match your concentration area (see concentration slide) Placements often correlate naturally with your concentration if you follow your interests Field Placement Process Depositing initiates this process Attend Field Information Session via Zoom (Additional info and meeting link available on GSSW Student Resources Site) Complete the Internship Search Form (ISF) (delivered via email) Sign up for Field Advising Appointment (link in field advising email) Review choices for placement and outreach to agencies Schedule interviews with agencies If you need further assistance or more options for placement contact your Field Advisor Decide which internship offer you would like to accept Submit the Field Confirmation Form (FCF) Academic Services registers all students for field internally. Plan Your Summer Schedule The summer curriculum is intensive. It consists of the following course formats: 5 day intensive (9-4) (Advanced Standing Seminar only) 4 ½ week intensives (classes meet twice weekly for 3 hours) Weekend intensives (2 consecutive Fridays/Saturdays, all day meeting) We recommend students only register for 12 credits (4 classes) All students are required to take the following in Summer: SOWK 4299 Advanced Standing Seminar SOWK 4132 Power Privilege and Oppression SOWK 4201 Evidence Based Practice

Advanced Standing Seminar Clear your schedule for this week! This class is an intensive-format, 5-day class and it is time consuming! Meets July 10 – July 16, daily, 9 am-4 pm You will need the weekend (July 14-15) to research and write a paper Seminar is only offered in-person, and during the summer quarter Note that Seminar precedes the rest of the summer curriculum All other classes run July 18-Aug 16 Refer to the course schedule for start dates of specific courses

Research Sequence SOWK 4201 Evidence for Practice Students learn to be informed consumers of peer-reviewed research Taken during the Summer Quarter (prerequisite for SOWK 4900) SOWK 4900 Methods for Evaluating Practice and Program Students prepare to conduct their own research projects Usually a program evaluation tied to their field placement Can be taken during the Fall or Winter Quarter SOWK 4901 Applied Practice Evaluation Research Students conduct their research projects and evaluate the results Taken the quarter following SOWK 4900

Concentration Curricula Content Areas The concentration curricula include the following types of courses: Content Area Theory For practice Methods/Skills Policy & Program Advocacy Research Values for Practice Internship Capstone Electives Credits 3 9 6 15 12 Field Work 20 hrs/week = 15 credits 24 hrs/week = 18 credits Students in 24 hour placements can take one less elective or graduate with additional credits Elective Courses Certificates utilize some elective credits
