Major Crashes/Lessons Learned Transportation & Vehicle Maintenance Department School District of Manatee County

Major Crash January 2012 Middle School Bus 560 rear-ends semi-trailer. 26 students onboard. 23 transported to local hospitals. Traveled 34 mph at the time of impact. Bus Operator cited

Lessons Learned Passenger List Media Communication Checkoff Process

SCHOOL BUS FLEET ACCIDENT PROCESS 1. Check for injuries and notify dispatch immediately, dispatch will contact (911), but the employee is also encouraged to contact (911) depending on the emergency. Dispatch will call Emergency Hotline at 941-708-8670 to report accident.

SCHOOL BUS FLEET ACCIDENT PROCESS 2. Dispatch will notify a member of the safety team. Safety Team will responds to accident scene Safety Team will assist driver with completing the required paperwork for law enforcement reporting purposes. Safety Team will document any student injuries and notify Dispatch for further notifications.

SCHOOL BUS FLEET ACCIDENT PROCESS 3. When there is an employee injury: In case of minor injury report the injury to the Workers Compensation line. In case of serious injury employee will be transported to nearest hospital.

SCHOOL BUS FLEET ACCIDENT PROCESS 4. At the scene, safety team will take pictures and collect the other party's information via crash report.

SCHOOL BUS FLEET ACCIDENT PROCESS 5. Safety Team will coordinate post-accident drug testing program.
