Cattolica Center is a multifunctional space located in the Zai district of Verona and was born from the reconversion of a large industrial building of the early 60s, where the Autogerma headquarters were located. The main scope of the requalification project was to recover the architectural features of the building and adapt the spaces to current regulations, through a series of interventions aimed at anti-seismic reinforcing of the load-bearing structures, at fire protection and acoustic correction. Sample text (high level project pitch) STRANDBADKIRCHBICHL is a visionary design project involving the construction of a new office building in a remote mountain region of Austria, with a design which reflected the crashing waves coming in from the nearby beach. Great technical skill and knowledge of interior systems was required in order to optimize lighting, acoustics and sound absorption within a very complex curved shaped structure which would not naturally provide this level of performance. This presentation will also be used on the book and on the website to present your project.

The roofing of the building consists of 26 large "dome" structures - with large shed windows that illuminate the interior spaces - previously plastered with an old and deteriorated product. The existing plaster was replaced by an innovative Saint-Gobain Gyproc solution, specifically designed for this project, in order to improve both fire protection and sound absorption.

At the center of the “domes”, a suspended ceiling contributes to the acoustic correction and increases the aesthetic and scenographic effect of the building, also thanks to the study of a particular LED lighting. For passive fire protection of concrete slabs and existing metal studs, the insulating light plaster Gyproc Igniver was used.

Gyptone Activ'Air® was used to realize both ceilings and walls: the elegant series of perforated panels guarantees high aesthetic and acoustic performances. Activ'Air® technology ensures an improvement in air quality thanks to the absorption and neutralization of formaldehyde in indoor environments.

The two types of partition walls consist respectively of 4 Gyproc Fireline boards and 4 Gyproc Wallboards (two boards for each side), anchored to Gyproc Gyprofile metal structures. Gyproc Wallboard are standard plasterboards, while Fireline are type F D, so they guarantee an excellent protection from fire.

Key challenges (write a max. 50 words paragraph) e.g. Budget, Time, Space, Technical challenges before and during installation/application (Development of a new solution…) The existing plaster was so damaged that a specific solution was created, with the aim of improving both fire protection and sound absorption - consisting of the application of one Gyproc Igniver layer and a further layer of Gyproc Acoustical Plastic, both laid with 15 mm of thickness and anchored to a supporting metal net with anti-seismic function. Sample text Acoustics and light are the dominating elements in this project. The challenge was to allow maximal use of natural daylight using an unusually large funnel and integrating artificial lighting to complement natural light. The design however also had to provide an excellent level of acoustic performance in a challenging large open plan structure with high windowed ceilings. In addition to a combination of acoustics, sound absorption and light, there was particular emphasis on architecture and functionality through to the final finishing coating (Q4 surface quality) in order to meet the rigorous project standards.

Key achievements Explain why you succeeded in this project Long-standing collaboration/relationship with the contactor’s team Invention of a new solution by the combination of two plasters, in order to create a tailor-made solution, on the base of the owner’s requests Performance beyond regulatory requirement as far as fire protection is concerned Sample text Project delivered to challenging budget and time schedule Discussion throughout the process with the architect to optimize each design phase. Final result combines high standards for design / aesthetics, acoustic comfort, and optimal levels of natural daylight.
