An Analysis of the Publication of Osteoporosis Research Wing P. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks. Osteoporosis-related topics have been the subject of numerous studies during the last two decades. The objective of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of all osteoporosis-related publications in Science Citation Index (SCI) from 1991-2004. Methods Documents used in this study were based on the databases of the SCI which was accessed from the ISI Web of Science, Philadelphia, PA, USA. The keywords “osteoporosis” and “bone densitometry” were used to search for papers published SCI. Results Table 1. Major characteristics of the research Figure 1. Annual publication output Figure 2. Publication activity of top ten countries Conclusions The results show an increasing number of articles since 1991 and author numbers, article pages, and journal numbers indicate a continuous growth of the scientific community. The seven most productive countries were the seven industrialized countries (G7). The US was the world leader and dominated most of the publications, followed by the UK, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, and Canada. English was the dominant language, and 3 or 6 authors (55%) were the most common number of co-author. Thirteen document types were found in the total of 24,479 documents. The paper article was the most-frequently used document type comprising 71% of the total production. Articles were published by 94 countries with 14 languages
