Figure 1 Impaired Insulin Receptor Signaling in Podocytes May Promote the Development of Nephropathy through Two Mechanisms One pathway is through effects on cytoskeletal function. In the second pathway, the absence of insulin receptor signaling may leave the podocyte susceptible to apoptosis, which can cause proteinuria, instability of the glomerular tuft, and sclerosis.
