Chronicles of Room 24 Miss Thorson’s Class Week of November 13-17 Math This week we are moving into multiplication and division. Topic 4 is a simple overview of what multiplication is and what it really means. The first lesson today is all about how to break down a multiplication sentence and really understand what it means. Topic 4 test will be early next week. Upcoming Dates: November 14, 6-8pm Author Night. Parent Teacher Conferences November 17, 20-22. Please Sign up on Parent Access. Thanksgiving Break November 23 -24. No School. Contact Information Email: thorsonk@svsd410.org ELA We are continuing on with our reading and writing. Students have started a new writers journal. In this we are working on being more organized and beginning to use this journal as a tool rather than just paper in a book. Students should have their covers finished by Tuesday, so we can cover them and begin to use them as inspiration for our furture writing. Social Studies Community is the biggest focus for Social Studies this month. We are talking about where our community is in the world, different places around us, and beginning to learn who makes up a community. The next chapter asks How do people become part of our community? Science We are finishing our unit on Salmon. This involved finishing the life cycle of salmon. These will be completed this week, and will be hung from the ceiling. Look for them during conferences.

Chronicles of Room 24 Miss Thorson’s Class Week of November 6-9 Math We are finishing Topic 3. In this unit we talked about Subtraction and Addition using place values. Students are able to add and subtract 3-digit numbers using place values and strategies such as regrouping and borrowing. Upcoming Dates: Parent Teacher Conferences November 17, 20-22. This is informational pieces and nonfiction works. Students have picked an animal to research and write an informational article about. This article will be written in class over the next few weeks. Social Studies Community is the biggest focus for Social Studies this month. We are talking about where our community is in the world, different places around us, and beginning to learn who makes up a community. The next chapter asks How do people become part of our community? Science Last week we went on a field trip to the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery. The students enjoyed seeing salmon up close and see what they are learning in class. We will finish talking in depth about the life cycle, before moving into ecosystems that salmon live.
