Welcome to Orientation Class – IX 2019-2020

ACADEMIC PATTERN - WILL BE BASED ON THE NEW SYSTEM OF ASSESSMENT & EXAMINATION INTRODUCED BY CBSE. There will be no semester system, students will be assessed on the basis of pen and paper test conducted at the end of the term. There will be a component of internal assessment which will include periodic tests and mid term examination.

There will be 80 marks paper covering the entire syllabus at the end of the term in each subject. There will be 20 marks for internal assessment which will comprise of : Periodic tests & Multiple Assessments : 10 marks Subject enrichment activities : 5 marks Portfolio : 5 marks

CLASS IX An academic year will have 2 terms - FIRST TERM April to September SECOND TERM October to March

Scholastic and Co-Scholastic AREAS OF ASSESSMENT Scholastic and Co-Scholastic

Hindi / Sanskrit / French Scholastic SUBJECT WISE ASSESSMENT English Math Science Social Science Hindi / Sanskrit / French

Term-I will comprise of: One pen paper test – 35 marks Multiple assessment- 5 marks Subject enrichment activities- 5 marks Portfolio - 5 marks Mid term examination 80 marks Term-II will comprise of: End term examination 80 marks

Mathematics, Social Sciences & Science Languages Mathematics, Social Sciences & Science Perodic – I ( April to Aug) Paper-Pen Test : 35 m Multiple assessment: 5 m c) Assessment of speaking and listening skills: 5 m d) Portfolio : 5 m c) Subject enrichment activities : 5 m Mid –term examination ( Sept) Pen – paper test : 80 m Periodic –II (Oct to Jan) End Term Examination ( Feb )

If a student misses any test/ examination he/she will be awarded ZERO marks for the same. NO RETEST will be allowed, under any circumstances, except if the student is representing the school in a co-curricular activity.  

Final Assessment for Class IX Periodic Test – Average of two best i.e. Mid term exam and the two periodic test: 5 m Multiple assessment- ( best of two periodic) 5 m ASL/ Subject enrichment activities ( average of both periodic) : 5 m Notebook Submission ( average of both periodic) : 5 m End term examination : 80 m

End Term Examination ( Feb) Entire syllabus will be tested. Exams will be conducted by school for Class IX . Performance will be assessed through marks and grades. Grades will be awarded on a 8 point scale.

In order to be declared as having passed class IX Examination, a student must obtain a minimum of 33% marks in each of the five subjects Individually . If a student scores less than 33% in two subjects, it will be considered as compartment, and he/she will have to write the compartment exam and score above 33% in it for promotion to Class X. If a student scores less than 33% in more than two subjects, he/she will be considered detained in Class IX. A printed performance profile will be given after the Mid-term and Final Examinations. It will reflect the marks and grades scored by the student in internal assessments and the term examinations.

WHO WILL GRADE FOR CO-SCHOLASTIC? Art Education- by Visual or Performing Art teacher (students to select one form of creative arts) Health & Physical Education Strand I: Games /Sports - Physical Education Teachers Strand II: Health and Fitness – Physcial Education Teachers Strand III: SEWA - Teachers in-charge of NSS Strand IV: Health and Activity card - Health Check up record Discipline- by Class teacher in consultation with subject teachers (Attendance, Sincerity, Behaviour and Values)

Evaluating Co- Scholastic Areas Anecdotal Records An anecdotal record is the observed behaviour of a student. It is a record of some significant episode that happened in the life of the student and which sheds light on the conduct, thinking, skills and capabilities, revealing significant features and characteristics about his/her personality. There will be no upscaling of grades on the basis of Co-scholastic grade points . There will be no descriptive indicators for these areas.

Portfolio It is the collection of evidence of a student’s work over a period of time. It could be day-to-day work or selection of the learner’s best piece of work.

Certificates of Merit/ Achievements Paintings and other examples of PORTFOLIO CAN INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING Photographs Certificates of Merit/ Achievements Paintings and other examples of artistic endeavour Audio-Video Recordings (CD) Self Assessment Sheets Peer Assessment Sheets Teacher Assessment Sheets Any kind of Literary work Interests and hobbies Write up on social work done by the student
