Our Curriculum

What are the main aims of our curriculum? What do we want our children and young people to become?

become responsible citizens? become confident individuals? become responsible citizens? be successful learners?

How does our school curriculum reflect the core values in our mission statement?

The Vision for our School In short, our vision is: …to see our children leave Chapel End Primary school as healthy, happy, rounded individuals who: Have respect for the world and understand their responsibilities as a global citizen in ensuring it is conserved for future generations Are aware of their place in society and their responsibility to contribute positively to it. Are polite, well mannered and helpful Have respect and tolerance for others, and their beliefs and cultures. possess the skills and knowledge that they require to enable them to continue their learning and achieve their full potential.

Aims of Billinge Chapel End Primary School At Chapel End we pride ourselves on providing a warm and friendly atmosphere for children, parents and staff. Our aims are to: A1 Provide learning environments that are warm, welcoming, secure, child centred and intellectually stimulating. A2 Help develop a positive attitude to learning and encourage children to become independent and involved in planning and organising their own learning. A3 Provide quality teaching that motivates and sustains the children’s attention. A4 Encourage our children to develop lively, imaginative, creative and enquiring minds. A5 Provide opportunities for our children to question, discuss and apply themselves to tasks and physical skills. A6 Develop the skills that children need in order to contribute successfully to a constantly changing society. A7 Develop the moral and social values that children need in order to contribute effectively towards a sustainable environment for future generations. A8 Encourage the children to value human achievements in all areas including music, sports and the arts. A9 Develop the potential of every child so they can achieve to the best of their ability

So…to achieve these aims what will the curriculum look like?

This is what a Good curriculum looks like Well organised, imaginative opportunities for learning… broad range of experiences… adjusted effectively to meet needs… activities have a high take up across groups and are much enjoyed

This is what an Outstanding curriculum looks like: Memorable experiences… rich opportunities for high quality learning… may be at the forefront of successful, innovative curriculum design…customised to changing needs of individuals and groups… highly tailored programmes… highly coherent and relevant… promoting outstanding outcomes

Attitudes & attributes Our Curriculum has three strands Each strand is vital if our curriculum is to achieve its aims Attitudes & attributes Children need to have opportunities which develop: Readiness Resilience Resourcefulness Reflectiveness Reciprocity (two way learning) Skills Children need to be given opportunities to develop some key skills (see next slide) Knowledge & Understanding ( the National Curriculum)

Key skills These skills are essential in ensuring children become lifelong learners. Problem solving Using IT effectively Applying Number Self improvement Working effectively with others Communicating Our curriculum provides opportunities to develop these things as often as possible

Quality of Teaching & Learning “Challenge and fun is the key to the door, Children who learn will come back for more. A good sense of humour and a helping of praise , Cater for all and attainment will raise.” The poem above is a mnemonic for the following. Behaviour Differentiation Progress Attitudes of children Relationships Challenge Evaluating (children’s self evaluation) Range of Teaching Styles
