Concussions In Teens Are Rising A discussion of the importance of recognizing/diagnosing brain injury…

“Diagnoses of concussions rose to a record high between 2010 and 2015, particularly among teens, according to a new report published by Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.”

Why? Sports – football Heightened awareness of TBI/concussions Recognizing symptoms Understanding the dangers of multiple head injuries New laws require athletes to obtain medical clearance before returning to a sport after a head injury

What is being done? Research! Researchers are developing new methods to not only diagnose but also to treat concussions as quickly as they can… As of now, the physician typically relies on the injured person to explain their own symptoms and injury PLUS physical examination…

BrainScope’s Ahead 300

Medical Markers Quanterix (a diagnostics company) is developing a blood test to specifically identify proteins related to head injury in order to make diagnosing TBI as easy as “flagging high cholesterol and mononucleosis.”
