The Lifeguard Team How to work with other!

The Lifeguard Team May be trained and evaluated together Must practice working together Everyone needs to know what their role is in an emergency Knowing what you & other team members expect requires communication and in-service training LG is part of aquatic safety team

Facility Management Provide policies/procedures manual Conduct in-services Provide opportunities for career development

Patron Safety Lifeguards use three injury prevention strategies: Communication with patrons Facility safety checks Patron surveillance

Communication with patrons… INFORM patrons about potential for injury EDUCATE about inappropriate behavior ENFORCE rules and regulations

Safety Checks Conducted at opening and during day If you find an unsafe condition, try to fix it before the facility opens. If not, close the area & notify management Record, record, record

Weather Conditions Lightening and thunder occur more often in the summer months Follow facility's EAP for clearing patrons for a storm
