Mohan After School Program and 7th period Parent Town Hall August 16, 2014

After School Program The state was no longer able to fund the after school program through YPI In it is place the administration has hired two candidates Both candidates worked with YPI and our school during the 2013-14 school year Our after school aides: Denise Zamora and Luis Molina They will be on site from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm Monday through Friday Mr. Deford will remain the after school administrator During the 2014-15 school year Jessica Ortiz will be our after school office clerk

After School Program 1st semester: The program will begin Monday, September 1st and end Friday, December 12th 2nd semester: The program will begin Monday, January 19th and end Tuesday, June 9th After school hours: 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm After school activities will most likely include, but not limited to the the following: Basketball Volleyball Cheerleading Various clubs (students run LA, the bike club, literary journal, etc.) Students will also have the opportunity to play various board games

After School Program Students will know which options are available for the after school program during spirit week Spirit week will take place the week of August 25, 2014. If you student is interested in starting a club or sport team they must Find a teacher who is willing to lead the club or sports team Notify Denise or Luis The administration will approve all clubs and sports

7th Period What is 7th period? Who will participate in 7th period? It is an additional class period to support students who are failing classes or in danger of failing classes Who will participate in 7th period? Students who are failing one or more classes during the normal day It is mandatory for any student failing one or more classes, and if the student’s teacher is offering tutoring. How will students know if they need to participate in 7th period? They will receive a 7th period contract every quarter. What are the dates for 7th period? 1st semester: The program will begin Monday, September 1st and end Friday, December 12th 2nd semester: The program will begin Monday, January 19th and end Tuesday, June 9th

7th Period What time does 7th period begin and end? From 3:50 pm to 4:50 pm A bell will ring to start 7th period A bell will ring to end 7th period If teachers plan to keep a student pass 4:50 pm the teacher will notify the parents How will you know if your student has to attend 7th period? They will receive a 7th period contract The office will also mail the contract home The office will also call home to notify parents How do I know what days my student is suppose to attend? The 7th period contract will notify parents and students the exact days they are expected to attend and which teacher/subject they have to attend for What happens if I think my student should be a part of 7th period but I am not notified by the office? Contact your grade level counselor 9th and 10th grade: Mr. Cartenga 11th and 12th grade: Ms. Diaz and Ms. Bonilla

7th Period Will students receive credit for 7th period? This is a none credit course, but instead it is a support class to aide your student in passing the class(es) they are failing It is a mandatory class that they must attend What if my student is absent during a 7th period? The parent/guardian must notify the school 24 hours in advance by phone or note (if the student is given a note the office will verify the absence prior to dismissing the student) A student will not be dismissed from their 7th period but simply stating that they cannot attend If a student does not attend 7th period students will be notified within 24 hours (unless a excused note was received) Students with excessive excused or unexcused absences from 7th period will engage in a parent meeting with the administration and/or grade level counselor Students with excessive excused or unexcused absences from 7th period will receive Wednesday detention Students with excessive excused or unexcused absences will not be allowed to participate in after school activities (i.e. dances, clubs, sports, picnics, etc.)
